The PREMIUM Clinical Migraine Trial
Approximately 28 million people in the United States suffer from migraine headaches, yet the cause of this debilitating condition remains unclear.
1 Recent research, however, suggests a connection between migraines and a common heart defect.
About 25% of adults has a
patent foramen ovale (PFO), a small opening between the upper chambers of the heart that allows some blood to bypass the filtering system of the lungs.
2
Studies have shown a higher prevalence of PFO among people with severe migraines
3, leading some researchers to think migraines may be triggered by small clots or chemicals that reach the brain with the unfiltered blood.
We need your help
The PREMIUM Migraine Clinical Trial study engages migraine patients to help investigate the possible link between their headaches and PFO.
AGA Medical LLC - a leader in developing devices to treat cardiovascular defects and diseases - is conducting the clinical trial.
Working with neurologists, cardiologists and other physicians, AGA Medical is seeking migraine patients to enroll in the PREMIUM Trial at
various study sites across the country.
